Access Platforms Training

Training underway for forklift driver

There are four categories of platform, each is determined by the equipment type and whether it is mobile or static. Training on this equipment is very important. Work at Height Regulations 2005 stipulate that those working at height “must be competent” which means they must be trained and have refresher courses. iGSG offer a full range of courses whether in our dedicated training centre or on you premises.

Static Vertical Platforms

This category covers the smaller vertical access platforms, typically used for building maintenance and inspection. They are moved into the correct position manually and/or by a vehicle, and stabiliser arms are deployed to make the position of the platform safe. Only then can the platform be safely elevated. Our training covers all aspects of their safe operation and includes IPAF certification

Mobile Vertical Platforms

This includes Scissor Lifts and Mobile Vertical Personnel Platforms Scissor Lifts have been in use for many years and come in a wide variety of platform sizes, lift heights and drive options. They are used for a wide range of tasks, especially where people and equipment need to be taken to a height. Mobile Vertical Personnel Platforms are a more recent innovation and are usually better known by their product name e.g. ‘Stockpicker’ etc. The training courses offered cover all types of mobile vertical platform and include IPAF certification.

Static Boom Platforms

These are fixed position platforms, commonly used in maintenance and construction. A boom or mast is elevated so that personnel can work at a single or varying heights. The boom may be vehicle mounted or can be a towed trailer. iGSG Training courses cover the safe use and set up of these platforms and includes IPAF certification.

Mobile Boom Platforms

Also known as Self Propelled Booms, there are two main types of mobile boom platforms, Telescopic Booms Articulating Booms. Articulating booms have the advantage of greater versatility in operation as they can move through more angles and therefore allow access ‘up and over’ obstructions. Telescopic Booms do not bend and are mainly used for difficult high access work. As well as variations in lift heights (up to 150ft /45m+), boom access platforms can have different power sources. They come in narrow chassis designs for limited space applications, 2 or 4 wheel drive, all terrain etc. Their ability to access tall structures as well as their flexibility, means both these machines have a wide range of applications. These are very technical pieces of equipment and the iGSG training reflects this with full IPAF certification being given.
